Calls for September 2006
Total of 45 calls
Sept 10th was a special day for HFD. The Canadian fallen firefighters
memorial was held in Ottawa, Ont. The 6 firefighters who died
in the line of duty last year were honored, joining the more
than 800 firefighters who gave their lives since the early 1900’s.
Firefighter James Peter Ratcliffe from Hudson was one of them.

• Sept.
1st – Medical call
• Sept.2nd – Medical call
• Sept.2nd – Fire call(Smell of gas)
At approx. 10:30, Engine 202 responded
to an apartment complex for a smell of gas in the parking garage.
After investigating the area, a car with a leak in the gas tank
was found to be the problem.E202 cleared shortly after.
• Sept.2nd – Fire call(Flood call)
Later that same day, Engine 202
and medic 902 responded for a flooded basement. A drain pipe
from the washing machine was found to be the cause of the problem.
The crews rectified the problem and were back in service within
an hour.

• Sept.5th – Fire call(Commercial fire alarm)
At 13:30hrs, all vehicles got called
out to a commercial building for alarms. Engine 202 arrived
first and reported that a water cooler was defective and started
smoking. All crews were cleared within a half hour.
• Sept.7th – Fire call(Smell of smoke in commercial
building)
Engine 202 was called out for automatic
mutual aid in station #8’s district for a smell of smoke
inside a commercial building. The building was completely verified
and nothing was found. E202 was cleared by command shortly after.
• Sept.7th – Medical call
• Sept.8th – Fire call(Smoke in house)
At around 10:30, all vehicles responded
to a house for smoke coming from the basement. Engine 208(St-Lazare)
was called out to back up Hudson. Engine 202 sent a crew in
to investigate and found that a malfunctioning fridge motor
was the cause.
• Sept. 10th – Fire call(Oil spill)
While the men and women from Hudson
were in Ottawa to honor James and all the firefighters who sacrificed
their own life to save others, engine 212 and rescue 502 responded
to an oil spill. The situation was quickly under control and
the 2 vehicles cleared within the hour.
• Sept. 11th – Medical call
• Sept. 12th – Medical call
• Sept. 13th – Fire call(MVC)
Rescue 502 was called for a 2 vehicle
mvc with minor injuries. After verifying the patients, the crew
cleaned up the scene and cleared.
• Sept. 13th – Fire call(Commercial fire alarm)
At 19:00, all vehicles responded
to a maintenance building for a golf course for alarms sounding.
E202 took command and after verifying all the buildings nothing
was found.
• Sept. 14th – Medical call
• Sept. 14th – Fire call(Residential fire alarm)
All vehicles responded to a residential
fire alarm. The cause of the alarm was from workers sanding
gyproc. All was found to be OK and the vehicles were in commission
shortly after.
• Sept. 14th – Fire call(Chimney fire)
Engine 202, Tanker 302 and Rescue
502 responded for a chimney fire on a 2 storey house. The owner
had extinguished most of the fire with a garden hose before
we arrived. The engine crew went up to the roof to finish the
job. The owner was advised to have his chimney inspected by
a technician.

All vehicles responded to a commercial
building for alarms. The building was checked and nothing was
found.
• Sept. 18th – Medical call
• Sept. 19th – Medical call
• Sept. 19th – Fire call(Power lines)
The Engine and Tanker got a call
for power lines arcing. The scene was secured and Hydro was
contacted.
• Sept. 20th – Medical call
On Sept 24th Vaudreuil County got hit with another wind and
rain storm. All the fire departments were kept very busy including
Hudson.
• Sept. 24th – Fire call(Boat call)
Boat 1502 was called out to assist
station #7(Rigaud) for a boat with mechanical problems. B1507(Rigaud)
was able to handle the call and cancelled 1502.
• Sept. 24th – Fire call(Wires down)

Rescue 502 was called to back up
station #7(Rigaud) for a heavy machinery accident. Station #7
arrived first and reported that somebody was trapped under a
pay loader. Rescue 502 arrived shortly after and was advised
by command that the victim was being treated by ems and our
services were not required.
• Sept. 26th – Fire call(Light smoke from house)
All vehicles responded to a vacant
house for a smell of smoke. This house was being used by the
department for live fire training earlier that night. The smell
was caused by embers that reignited in the attic. The small
fire was quickly extinguished and the house is ready for the
next burn.
• Sept. 26th – Fire call(Flood call)
Rescue 502 got called out for a
flooded basement. At our arrival, a drain pipe from the washing
machine was found to be the cause. The basement was pumped out
and R502 cleared after about an hour.
• Sept. 26th – Fire call(Smell of gas in house)
All trucks responded to a smell
of gas coming from the basement near a fire place. The propane
was shut off to the fire place and the house was ventilated.
R502 verified the house with the gas detector and found no readings.
• Sept. 26th – Medical call
• Sept. 28th – Fire call(MVC)
R502 got dispatched to assist station#7(Rigaud)
for an mvc. This call was deep in Rigaud’s district. Engine
207 arrived first and notified that no extrication was required.
